Devotion inspired by my Dad & ‘God & Goals’ Reading Plan
When I think of Google Maps, I just want to thank God for giving people immense knowledge to just come up with that lifesaving app.
Honestly, the many times I’ve used Google Maps especially in Nairobi town to save myself the hustle of asking everyone😉, plus the embarrassment (but surely, who was born knowing the busy city in and out? Noone🤪). My other reason is… remember those stories that you should not trust anyone, someone might drug you, or something of the sort🙃?
Anyway my point is, we use Google maps to give us the right directions (though I’ll never forgive it for the days it’s misled me😄)
The book of Exodus gives us details on the Israelite journey from Egypt to Canaan, the promised land, a journey that took them a whole 40 years (sigh😞🙄) with no Google Maps in a desert.
Lakini Mungu ni nani! He had his own method, long before Google Maps were invented. He used clouds and fire🤔. Just take a minute and let that sink in. Imagine being told to crisscross the Sahara desert and then God tells you. “Don’t worry, I’ll guide you”, and then boom! Some clouds hanging above you start going ahead of you, and when it’s time to make a left turn, you follow suit, creepy right😂.
Exodus 13:21 says “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light so that they could travel by day or night. “
HOW MAGNIFICENT IS OUR GOD!
God guided them till they got to their promised land. In this day and age, God has given us His Word to be our guide. But I just want to ask you, this year, what or who will be your guide? (Is it God, witchcraft, false prophets, palm readers et al?)
We keep checking Google maps to be sure we are headed in the right direction because if we lose sight, we might find ourselves in unfamiliar places. The same way, God’s word needs to be our constant guide.
What if we don’t achieve perfect progress this year?
Remember, God is not concerned about whether or not you achieve perfect progress this year, He just wants your heart and step by step, prayer by prayer, moment by moment as we seek Him, we will stay on the right path.
“Connection with God will keep us in check with Him.”
God wants us to stay connected to Him every step of the way, and He’ll guide us. Following the purposes He has for us, is like following a map He creates. He knows the way.
May the Lord give us a spirit of power, love and self-discipline this new year, and not a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Let us use God’s map, which is His word. May the Lord help us to stay focused on our goals this year as He guides us and keep us on His path.
Q: What have you planned this year? Remember Proverbs 16:9 says In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
Q: Do you delight in God i.e take pleasure in the Word of God? Psalms 37: 4-5 says “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:
Q: Do you intend to be more connected to God this year? John 15:4-5 reminds us that “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me? “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.
Q: Do you know what will happen tomorrow? James 4:13-15 reminds you …Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
“You may not know what tomorrow holds, but you know who holds your tomorrow. Let God be your Guide this Year, and He will make your paths straight”
