Does God really care about my pain?

Pneumonia is no joke! It comes with some piercing pain that comes from the back all the way to the front😏. That chest pain when you breathe or cough is just unbearable. So, I visited a doctor asap because that pain😕…naaah, I couldn’t withstand it. So, of course, the doctor asked me what I was feeling and I explained. He listened keenly the whole time while writing his notes as I passionately😆 explained what I was feeling that day, so he could give me the right prescription.

While at it, I asked myself “Wait a minute, does he really know how I am feeling🤔🤔 Has he ever had pneumonia for him to understand the kind of pain I had? Maybe, maybe not🤷‍♀️ But, what about all those other patients who pay him a visit, does he really understand all their pains? Of course not! He is treating patients based on their SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS, based on what he was taught, but not based on experience! From that day, my zeal to explain my problems ceased😃, I was like “anyway, I don’t think he understands, but I’ll just explain for him to prescribe the right medication”.

Have you ever explained your problems or situation to a pal and they talk to you, but after that, you still feel empty? Why does that happen? Because your void has not been filled, there is something else you were looking for but you have not found it!

Has someone ever told you ‘Oh my dear, I understand how it feels’. DO THEY REALLY UNDERSTAND? Of course, they may be trying to help based on their ‘similar’ experiences but they don’t realize that my experience and their experience may be similar but not IDENTICAL‘. {Let me explain: Similar means that the experiences are not entirely the same, but identical means the experiences are exactly the same}.

In reverse, remember the last time you told someone you understood their pain? Well, I don’t know if you really did. Maybe you ever went through a similar experience but the magnitude and circumstances of your pain and their pain could be different.

But don’t get me wrong

I believe one of our strongest desires in life is to feel understood especially at our lowest moments. Someone wrote “One of our strongest desires is to feel understood. We want to know they see us. They recognize the thoughts, feelings, and struggles that underlie our choices, and they not only empathize but maybe even relate. And maybe they’d do the same thing if they were in our shoes. Maybe, if they’d been where we’ve been, if they’d seen what we’ve seen, they’d stand right where we are now, in the same circumstances, with the same beliefs, making the same choices. Underneath all these maybes is the desire to feel validated. We’re social creatures, and we thrive when we feel a sense of belonging. That requires a certain sense of safety, which hinges upon feeling valued and accepted. But those feelings don’t always come easily.

With all this, what’s my point? We have someone who ABSOLUTELY understands us😊. Quite a relief, huh!

His name is Jesus, He is my go-to person for ALL my problems, frustrations, embarrassments, situations, pains and all that! I mentioned ALL because I know there are some things we don’t disclose to our closest friends for fear of being misunderstood, or even being judged or even for the shame!

I absolutely love my go-to person because He agonises with my pains. This is the proof from Isaiah 49:16 which says “See, I have engraved you on the PALMS of my hand, your walls are EVER before me“. Basically, everything you go through, God knows about it because He is an omniscient God! Omniscient means that God is all-knowing. This means God knows everything, and there is nothing God is unaware of (which includes your pain and struggles).

I looove Hebrews 4:14-16. It says “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

We are therefore encouraged to share our pains with God because:
1). He is able to sympathise with us
2). He was tempted in every way
3). Once we approach the throne of grace, we get the mercy and the grace that we need to get through the season

Sometimes I feel like no one gets me, especially my pain, but I know I have one who gets me, one who really cares. 1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) always reminds me that:

Cast all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He, cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

Still in doubt that God really cares? Read these verses:

  • Psalms 56:8 You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not recorded in Your book?
  • Psalms 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
  • Psalms 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow]

Can you imagine that God cares about YOU! Yes, you, and the rest 7.9B people in the world. Isn’t God amazing? Why wouldn’t you then cast ALL your cares, pains, worries to you? God should be our number one go-to person for everything even before you go to your bestie (who may not relate to your pain as God can, because they are only human).

My prayer for you:

May we may approach the throne of God with CONFIDENCE so that we may receive mercy and grace to help us in our time of need.
Psalms 139 will be my parting shot for today just to remind you that God knows you and cares about you😊😊. Whisper this prayer from vs 23 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts”.

Be rest assured that with God, you are in safe arms.

Ooh, I just remembered this wonderful hymn as I was finishing up (Watch the video by Gaither band)
Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

May we learn to lean on his EVERLASTING ARMS, for then we will be secure from ALL alarms
